Green Fins in Austin

    Newer Older

See how cool American cars used to be? And then they started getting designed by committees and focus groups and marketing experts... Did anyone see that Simpsons episode with Poochie the dog? I think about that episode a lot whenever I see a boring product flounder its way onto the scene.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with anything... other than just as a talking point when looking back at old American cars and how much personality they used to have. This was shot at a classic car show here in Austin, which is always a great place to take the tripod for some HDR goodness...

yep they don't make 'em like this anymore - might have something to do with the sheer weight of all that metal and chrome and the effect on mpg !

love the hot rods, the glossy paint holds so much reflection detail. hevay dose of photmatix, a hint of lucis, and a pinch smoothing and you can bring out a whole hidden world. Like the grungy feel on this one, yours are usually silky smooth

Trey, the car is cool. But the ghosting part is not so good. I think thats what happens when the place gets too busy :)

well, I was thinking the same only few days ago.... Japonese cars, American cars... were is the difference now? Those cars used to be made of metal solid (yeah) and not chunky plastic....

I love this picture and all of your amazing work in HDR, and this pic ups the coolness quotient of that car by an order of magnitude. :) But, for the record, a "milktoast" is a kind of food - a "milquetoast" is a person who has a meek, timid, unassertive nature, after Caspar Milquetoast, a comic-strip character created by Harold Tucker Webster (1885–1952).
