Borobudur at High Noon

    Newer Older

All of these SE Asian temples are oriented against the poles of the earth and the solar system so you can often get these symmetric shots, although I normally don't do that sort of thing. This was shot from the top of Borobudur when the sun was burning down at about 100 degrees of hot waves of humid heat. Scaling my way up there through the jungle gloom was tough enough without the added burning factor!

Well, you obviously dont need me to tell you that you are an absolutely amazing photographer!!! But I guess I am going to anyways... seriously, this shot is stunning! I read your profile and I LOVE the part about how HDR is really more like what we actually see in a scene ~ that is totally the way I feel about it and you are obviously the guy to make it happen! Really what more can I say.... amazing!

Interesting shot. If you come through Java/Jakarta again, drop me a line. I haven't been to Borobudur in a few years; best time to go is at 5:30am so you're first through the gates before the crowds (and umbrellas) crowd every shot. I actually wish there was more "jungle gloom" as it surely was before it became exploited. The concrete expanses surely aren't as spectacular as it would have been two hundred years ago.
