The Grassy Roof in the Central Icelandic Farms

    While driving from one side of Iceland to the other in what was supposed to be winter, I spent a fair amount of time in the grassy inlands where some sort of heat inversion kept the ground green and fertile. I came across a few of these homes with these thick peat grassy rooftops.

      Very impressive. But why the housebuilders have set these thick rockwalls beside the huts? Is it due to harsh storms or avalanches or what?

      Maybe you never have time to look at this comment of mine, but I do want to express my gratitude to your generosity in freely providing high resolution beautiful pictures that you took. This particular photo is a perfect desktop wallpaper for me, giving me a peaceful feeling whenever looking at it. I have it on my double PC screen at work, take the stress off my head!
