Thanks at the Buddhist Temple

    Newer Older

While walking around the city of Melaka on Saturday afternoon, I was getting lost on purpose through the back streets. I came across a Buddhist sanctuary and temple. As I came around the outer wall, I found this old guy meditating and begging. I gave him a few Malaysian Ringits and he said thank you while I took this quick shot.

He didn't speak any English but continued to give thanks and bow to me while sitting calmly.

maybe - you - were the answer to some of his prayers:) Nice shot, i like the balance of back ground with foreground and I like the particular earthy tones...even his cute little (maybe toothless) face ;) Nice photo and nice of you, thanks for the view, and the story!!

His eyes...are indeed thankful. His smile creeps into his eyes. Brilliant photo.

Nice facial expression. The slightly off-centered composition worked very well. Love it.

I've lurked in the background admiring your photographs and hdr compositing, but this picture I think may be my favorite. It evokes a lot of emotion when you think about it. Imagine yourself in a situation where a stranger giving you some money evokes such a profound feeling of thankfulness. It's one thing to say "Thank you" but words aren't even needed for this expression.

Nice wall. I like the reds.

Even your "quick shots" are really good.

Thank you for posting this photo and sharing it under a Creative Commons license. We used it as an illustration on our site, 500 Kindnesses to go with a pledge we received. This project is a charity bike ride where instead of asking for money, we ask our sponsors to pledge acts of kindness for others in the hopes of spreading kindness throughout the world . Last year we rode from Toronto to New York City on a tandem bicycle. Next year we will leave from Mobile, Alabama on another tandem bike and ride home to Toronto along the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route. More about the project is here, and the entry is posted here.
