I'd have to say The South Street Viking, as he's known among his friends, was one cool cat. Previously homeless for twenty one, you heard it right, twenty one years he's on his feet now and in his own apartment. Still bummed a buck from me, I guess old habits die hard. What a nice guy though, all smiles and a great attitude. He, like myself, struggled with addiction for many, many years. I seem to be naturally drawn to those like myself. It's eerie really, even those who I wouldn't have thought had travelled a similar path, in many cases have struggled like I have. So the South Streek Viking is usually playing some time of brass instrument but he was instrumentless when I met him. I really hope next time our paths cross he's got his horns with him, I'd love to hear him play. I bopped around South Street for the rest of the day and kept running into Charles, smiling every time. Makes me smile.
