Stranger #12: Leonie
See my first set here: Bomvu's 100 Strangers"
I was walking along Euston Road but was running out of light. I found a spot that had a nice light background and decided to wait around and see who would happen by.
When I first started photographing strangers I would see an interesting looking person and wish that I had my camera to hand. Now I've realised that in a place like London you are never more than a stones throw from an interesting stranger.
I hadn't been there long with I saw Leonie approaching and walked over to ask her for a picture. She was up for it as soon as I'd explained what it was about.
She told me that she'd just come from playing Netball. She then asked if she should smile or not. I asked her if she'd won her game and when she said that she had, I said that then she could smile. That got a lovely one!
I took a few pictures of Leonie slightly back, with smiles, serious face and straight face (not serious, just relaxed). She was so good at following my inept descriptions that I thought she could easily be a model. She has that rare ability to be completely unconcerned by a camera pointing in her face.
I then went in closer for this picture which is my favorite.
Thanks Leonie, it was lovely to meet you and I really enjoyed photographing you. I hope you continue to win at netball and everything else too. If you'd like a high res copy of this picture, please get in touch.
