  • Yes. Though historians are still debating about this -- of whether it is the self portrait, as DelaCroix was mum about it.

Liberty Leading the People
(La Liberté guidant le peuple)

Oil on Canvas, 260 cm × 325 cm
Eugène Delacroix, 1830

Remember the Statue of Liberty in New York? I first gazed at it a few years back. That statue was a gift from France. I would later learn that the stance of that statue, is largely based from this painting by Eugène Delacroix. The painting shows a woman personifying Liberty, holding a flag on one hand and a bayonet on the other -- leading the people from all walks of life, through bodies of the fallen. This painting personified the French revolution.

hB19, yes, I did change my icon, a tribute to a former president's funeral -- still underway as of this writing. Former President Aquino of the Philippines.

Oooh!! I adore this painting by Delacroix. Made a point to look for it when I was at the Louvre and was so happy when I saw it. :-)
