Stanley Cup and... ME!
In 1999, I was visiting Atlantic Canada with a friend. (Hi Liane! Why did we lose touch?)
We were driving between small towns when a group of people milling about in a wee park in North Rustico, PEI. It turns out this gent, Grant Marshall, had married a gal from this town, and promised to bring Lord Stanley's mug if he ever won it. He was true to his word, and believe it or not, it was the first time the Cup ever touched Prince Edward Island soil. I was honoured to be there for a truly community moment, and Grant was kind enough, not only to let me have a picture with him and his Grail, but to let me kiss the Cup as well!
Only fitting I post this after last night, when the Vancouver Canucks beat Marshall's old team, the Dallas Stars, in the sixth-longest OT game in NHL history. Hopefully I'll get another shot like this one very soon, only beside Brendan Morrison or Trevor Linden.
