new york telephone, a nynex company

grand street, lower east side. this was either in the window of kossar's bialys or the kosher pizzeria. the sticker is at least ten years old -- it predates nynex's 1996 merger with bell atlantic (nynex, like bell atlantic, was a "baby bell," one of a handful of regional telcos formed in 1984 as part of the at&t antitrust settlement) and bell atlantic's subsequent rebranding as verizon upon its merger with gte.
