Breaker Bay - Wellington NZ

These photos follow my 26 September 2010 walk along the Point Dorset track and the Eastern Walkway in Wellington city New Zealand. It was a typical early spring day with fierce winds and changeable weather with consequent spectacular coastal scenery. The Eastern Walkway extends along the southern end of Miramar Peninsula, on the edge of Wellington Harbour, from the Pass of Branda to Tarakena Bay. These photos include the extra walk out to Point Dorset, where World War II gun batteries and observation posts are slowly eroding into the landscape. Along the way re many Maori historical sites and spectacular views of Wellington Harbour and spectacular rocky coasts of layered, lifted and distorted ancient rock thrust up by the tectonic action between the Pacific and Australasian plates. The hills are a mixture of introduced plants and regenerating native forest.
