Comet-Hartley 2 -
Comet Hartley 2 (103P/Hartley), imaged from Waterford, Ireland, using a Canon 350D c/w Astronomik CLS Filter and Megrez 90 Telescope. 97 x 120 second exposures were taken, however, I ended up using 51 for this stack. Sky Glow conditions were very bad and this proved to be a very challenging object to track and image, so I was delighted that something turned up.
It is a small comet with an orbital period of 6.46 years. It was discovered by Malcolm Hartley in 1986. Ithas an estimated diameter of 1.2 to 1.6 km. This Comet will be the subject of a flyby by the Deep Impact spacecraft on November 4, 2010, with a closest approach of 700 kilometers.
