Baying at the Milky Way [C_061214]

This formation in Trona reminds me of a wolf howling (or baying) at the moon... only in this case it's the Milky Way. Or, it could be the giant wolf-like tufa formation is barking away the clouds - unsuccessfully.

It was a bit challenging to get this image because it was 97 degrees at 8:50 PM when it was taken. Yes, that was a lot cooler than it was 4 hours prior (106 F), but it made the sensor have noisy heartburn. Heat is the arch nemesis of camera sensors!

Here I fixed the sky noise using Topaz DeNoise but I left the foreground un-messed with except that I brightened it a bit.

I grabbed this shot between my Workhops. The first workshop was in Alabama Hills, the second in the Bristlecone Pines.
