Valley of Stars (Remix) *Explored*

Seeing Jason Armstrong's excellent work encouraged me to go back to my stack of images that I used to produce "Valley of Stars". (See that image for a lot more details on how this was produced).

I inexpertly played with Photoshop CS3 to include the last frame that I shot in twilight. The last frame was a 510 second exposure at ISO400 f/4 with long exposure noise reduction on. The sky at Half Dome was overexposed from the soon-to-rise sun so it was pretty tricky getting it to blend with the startrail stack.

In this case it is really only a combination of the Valley of Stars shot with the long exposure I described above. What appear to be clouds are actually the Milky Way and some glow from the sun striking high haze.

Want to see it LARGER?

By the way, this photo cost me two cracked ribs. Probably worth it.

Kirk S. selected this as his favorite from "Which One?"
