Stars and Moonlit Peaks  *Explored*
A view of the night sky from our first night's camp enroute to the highest peak in the lower 48 (Mt. Whitney). We were above the north shore of Consultation Lake. This photo looks pretty good small. But if you see it larger, you'll really notice the noise from the high-ISO exposure.
A 30 second exposure taken at 1:07 AM. ISO:3200, f/4, 17mm (27mm in 35 mm terms). The rising crescent moon is what lit the peak (and caused the shadow). Consultation Lake is in the hollow below.
For a view of the highest building in the lower 48 states check here. At least I assume it must be since it sits on top of the tallest mountain in the lower 48!
