Japanese Garbage

Today is burnable trash day!

Like all big cities, trash is a big deal. We humans make so much garbage and there is no where to put it all.

Japan has a very strict system for garbage removal. You are allowed to put certain types of garbage out for collection only at specific times. For me, I can put out burnable garbage on Monday and Thursday morning, recycleables on Teusday, and non burnables on Saturday.

We also must use approved garbage bags that are see through to make sure you don't break the rules. Mess it up by putting out the wrong kind of trash or putting it out too early or on the wrong day and you might get a scolding from your landlord or a neighbor おばちゃん.

It's important to do it right because if we don't Tokyo will be buried in trash in no time. Also important not to miss a trash day or you might have to live with tour smelly garbage bag for an extra week.

How is trash dealt with in your city/country?
