A Walk on the Wild Side
My wife and I were on the LDS temple grounds in Oakland yesterday. As I was walking through the parking lot towards the temple with my camera in hand, I heard a lady say something about a wild turkey to her friend... but I didn't realize that she was talking about one in the parking lot! About ten minutes later, I discovered it by some parked cars. As it kept a steady pace walking away from me, dodging between parked cars, walking across the roadway and then running across the lawn, I took some shots of it. Unfortunately, as I later learned, I had the image stabilization off on my lens.
The turkey seemed intent on keeping a little distance between us, but I was surprised that it was not more timid. It certainly was an unusual site for a residential area. There was a mangy, rather hardened-looking stray gray cat that was in this same vicinity. I didn't see the cat attempt to stalk or attack the turkey, though. (IMG_8100 LR4p)
