Hiking the Mare Island Preserve [✥Explored✥]
Because I've been taking so many evening and night pictures lately, I thought I'd see if I still remembered how to take some daylight photos! :D This is a view from a trail on the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve. The Mare Island Strait and the Vallejo's shoreline on the oposite side can be seen from this high vantage point. It was taken on February 25th when Ed, Paul and I hiked up a large hill on Mare Island, taking pictures along the way, to a vantage point overlooking the San Pablo Bay where we shot pictures of the sunset.
I don't know what the homes or buildings in the foreground are... and it is likely given their condition that they are no longer used because Mare Island is now a historical decommissioned naval shipyard. This picture is interesting not only because it looks and feels "Californian" with the beautiful palm trees, the water and East Bay hills in the distance, but the way the low angle of the late afternoon sunlight is hitting the building and trees in the foreground. I used Lightroom 4 to bring out the brush at the bottom of the image, which was dark in the original photo. (IMG_6593-LR4p)
