perth road network analysis
Analysis of road network patterns using data from OpenStreetmap. The map is of Perth in Scotland.
The width and brightness of roads depends on their "local connectedness" to the network around them.
This tends to show two main patterns of road layout; grid and cul-de-sac. Older parts of towns tend to show a tendency to grid-like patterns (brighter). Newer residential housing tends to follow the cul-de-sac pattern (darker).
