North Kohala Stream, Big Island, Hawaii

    Prev Next

There's a little hairpin turn on the Akoni Pule highway, with a bridge and this stream running under it, just before the road ends at Pololu Valley. Most tourists drive right by, photographers hit the brakes and swerve into the turnout.

Sometimes the flow is pretty good, other times it's a dry gulch. I spent an hour rock hopping here with the camera, and slapping mosquitos. By the time we continued on and hiked down into Pololu, it was raining, and I got no more pictures that day.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Nice Steve! Good flow, and great greens in the trees as well. I will be flying over to Maui tomorrow(mainly for work)....don't think I will be seeing streams of this sort however.

Thanks for helping me out a few months back picking out a wide-angle lens. I did go with the 10-24mm Nikon that you have and I'm loving it. Thanks again.

That's a great lens, I love mine. I think this image was shot with the 17-55 2.8. The foliage, temp and humidity were a little overwhelming - this was a day or 2 after arriving, blundering out of Tahoe mid-winter.

      thanks,
      steve

Looks like a great area to image hunt. Superb capture of this beautiful scene Steve.
I'm in Leavenworth WA getting familiar with my new Nikkor 16-35 F4. So far, it's great. So many great Nikkor lenses, so little cash......

Phil's Pixels Interesting you mention that lens, Phil. If I'd done a little more research, I think I would have ended up with that one: same basic focal range, plus VR, and the ability to shift to FX format if I go that route...let us know how you like it -

      Thanks for looking,
      Steve

It misted when we went down Pololu Valley but I was lucky enough to get quite a few shots before the clouds socked us in.

      I missed this!
Good to know for the next time.
