Abergavenny - Montague Burton - October 2021

This foundation stone is part of the former Burton's store in Abergavenny. The 'Montague' name, partialy obsucered by the young persons head, refers to its founder 'Montague Burton'. Burton's was a men's clothing company that once boasted around 400 high street stores, along with factories and mills. They had their own architectural department that designed its shops in a distinctive Art Deco style. This one is in Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, Wales.

The building materials include Portland stone, polished black marble, brass and glass.

After it was sold, this building appeared to be suffering damage during building work but Monmouth Council intervened and it is now listed. Currently, it is occupied by Mountain Warehouse.
