Milky Way, Airglow and Zodiacal Light (small)
Featured in Explore, 15 July 2015.
We had another astronomy trip out to dark skies south-west of Brisbane (near Warrill View) on Sunday night, so I had another opportunity to shoot the Milky Way.
This panorama (made up of about 30 images, each a 30 sec exposure with the Canon 6D and Samyang 14mm lens at f/2.8 and 6400 iso) shows the Milky Way arching overhead on the left hand side, and the planets Venus and Jupiter immersed in zodiacal light (which is sunlight reflected of dust particles orbiting the sun in the plane of the solar system) on the right hand side. Quite a lot of red airglow was also visible on this particular night.
The green beam on the far right is a laser being used to align the telescope to the star Arcturus.
