6th Avenue, New York City 2011 by Stephen B Whatley

A new oil painting by British expressionist artist Stephen B Whatley; inspired by 3 drawings of the same view made on location from the edge of Central Park, in October 2010. Stephen was mesmerised by Manhattan..." it was almost like being in an urban grand canyon..the vastness - not daunting but enlightening and elevating, buildings reaching to the skies; a stunning medley of glass shafts and classic brownstones sometimes interwoven with church spires, trees and vibrant flags. In this view - and I saw more with every look- here, in 6th Avenue, the neon light of Radio City Music Hall is just visible." The artist hopes this to be the first of a series of paintings about New York.

The work of Stephen B Whatley is noted in the UK for his work for the Royal Collection of Queen Elizabeth II and the BBC; and has been showcased in the USA by TIME magazine, USA TODAY, The New York Times &
