William & Kate: Tribute to Royal Love. 2011 by Stephen B Whatley
A new tribute in oils to the engagement of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, KG and Miss Catherine ('Kate') Middleton recently completed by artist Stephen B Whatley.
As ever, the expressionist painter created from his heart and soul, with prayer, to capture the essence of loving happiness evident in the selection of photographs that inspired this painting; especially the official engagement photograph by photographer, Mario Testino.
Stephen B Whatley has always felt an empathy and sympathy for Prince William (and indeed his brother Prince Harry) as poignantly he, like the Princes, suffered the same devastating tragic loss of his beautiful young mother, as a teenager; in 1981, a week after the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer.
No-one can fail to forget the beautiful Diana,Princess of Wales (1961-1997) - so much of whose spirit shines from her two sons - and the inclusion of her engagement ring, that touchingly Prince William has passed to his betrothed, Kate is an important part of this image.
Stephen B Whatley wished this work of art to be a vibrant celebration tribute - and statement: there are some in life, like the Prince, who are born to great privilege; but no-one, whatever their position in life, escapes unhappiness at some point. Prince William has deservedly found his happiness through his love for Kate Middleton, whom he will marry at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29th, 2011.
" So now faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
