Happy Fly Day Friday (with Mites Of Joy)
I truly like when bugs stop by my house instead of me going out to theirs. If anybuggy is reading this and wants to have their portrait taken there's a hole in the screen door in my backyard you can come in through. Larger insects please use the doorbell.
Anyways...a little info here. This is a crane fly which has probably the largest parasitic load I've seen...and yet he seemed more or less unaffected. I wish I could find out more about these mites but all I could find was that they are probably in the genus Calyptostoma.
The mouth parts are pretty scary looking but this crane fly will drink nectar, if anything.
