Amtrak Cascades Mud Bay Surrey BC 08-04-2005 10-28AM

    Newer Older

I remember the occasion very clearly. I had seen a photo taken at this location and worked out how I could catch the Cascades on the trestle - given that Amtrak is not noted for precise timekeeping. In order to get on the sunny side of the train I had to scramble over some riprap. And as I did so the cell phone in a holster on my belt fell, irretrievably, between the rocks.

Actually, having a complete matching set of cars and locos in the correct livery is also not an everyday occurrence, as my other photos of this service attest

    - Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as most interesting.

This image has been requested by WSDOT for use in promoting the Cascades - something I am proud to support!

And to my English fans please note that this is a picture of a Complete Train!

This week I read that the Talgos have returned on Seattle-Portland. Seattle-Vancouver, BC still seems to run with Superliners. Correct?

No I am from British Columbia, Canada

Amtrak now sends a Cascades train across the border twice a day

@ Stephen, really? I didn't think Amtrak wanted to go to Canada after security issues. I think that had to do with them replacing the "International" with the "Blue Water" out of Chicago.

I wasn't a security issue, it was a money issue. The Border Agency wanted Amtrak to pay for the additional staff time the extra train requires - as though it was a completely new service. There was a lot of pressure put on them to allow the extra service for the Olympics, and now it has been extended until the end of the summer. There is more on my bog
