Production of horn manure (BD preparation 500) at Granton Vineyard

The image here was captured in autumn 2013 at Granton Vineyard in southern Tasmania. Specially prepared cow horns set aside for the production of horn manure, otherwise known as BD preparation 500.

The 25ha site is home to the wines of fifth-generation winemaker Steve Lubiana. The Lubiana family creates cool climate, artisan wines from grape to glass in Australia's picturesque Derwent Valley. Sustainable vineyard practices and a state of the art on-site winery ensure complex New World wines of excellence and distinction that merit comparison with those of the Old World.

Granton Vineyard was certified biodynamic by Australian Certified Organic in March 2013.

Stefano Lubiana Wines is rated 5 red stars in the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2013.

In May 2010, Decanter's Andrew Jefford named Steve Lubiana as one of Australia's ten bravest winemakers: "their wines accurately, uncompromisingly and sometimes beautifully reflect their origins. They are like nothing else on earth."
