Beautiful beaches - the Gold Coast
There are over 52 kilometres of beautiful ocean beaches on Queensland's Gold Coast. A Governor of Queensland, Governor Musgrave, built a seaside home near Southport in 1885, setting a trend for the coast becoming a fashionable destination. Early trips from Brisbane involved a horse and coach ride along bush tracks, crossing the rivers by ferry and continuing along the beaches at low tide. Today's modern highway and railway make for a much faster and more comfortable trip.
