This is definitely photo-shopped, you can totally see the pixels!

    what an odd photograph ?!?!?!

    It's just so ... *improbable* - what have they jumped off/from ?

    It is an unusual photograph.

It was received by the State Library, as it appears, in 1985, as part of a donation.

And if it was received by this library in 1985 I think you will agree that that was pre photoshop. It certainly was pre widely available internet!

mawarre - you can 'photoshop' in a darkroom, pre-internet.

It is a pity we can't see the original bigger/more clearer .. it does seem though that this is a combination of two photographs, for what purpose, who knows ?

Great & funny! It reminds me J.H. Lartique's photos of jumping people, what he made in 1905, 1908 (may be more photos of nearly flying people by JHL was done in other term)

there could be a trampoline underneath them they intentionally left out of the picture.

I agree that there is likely something left out of the shot that propelled them up there. My sister took shots of me on a trampoline in the 70s where she left it out of the shot. But, by the way they are dressed, their close proximity to each other and by their body posture.. I think it unlikely that these two were able to jump that high on a trampoline right next to each other. Most people I knew could never bounce so that their feet reached their standing height off of the mat -- unless they are quite accomplished -- but their form does not indicate that.
