Australians John Bromwich and Adrian Quist won the final of the Davis Cup at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, PA, United States on 2-5 September 1939, against a team of four Americans. To 2011, the United States had won the Davis Cup 32 times, Australia 28 times and Great Britain and France 9 times each.
