    A few more, previously unseen shots of the Colwyn Bay Odeon / Astra taken in 1986 shortly before its demolition.

    Opened 1936. Architect J Cecil Clavering of the Harry Weedon practise. 1,706 seats. Twinned for bingo in stalls and 578 seat cinema in balcony. Closed 1986 and demolished soon after.

      i remember these as a kid living in London. There’s one in Nottingham (well as of last year) very similar.

      There's no original Odeon in Nottingham. There was a Rank-era renovated Ritz, but that was a boring flat fronted entrance to an auditorium behind the shops.

      The nearest Nottingham had to anything this design (rounded entrance/tower) was a small one called the Rio, which is now a mini-market, and the Capitol, which is now a church.
