hahaa, too funny. He seems pretty satisfied and happy with Ubuntu! Or maybe he is tired of it already! LOL

*shudder*-i had an HP NC6000 on my desk today. user couldn't figure out why it kept shutting down on her. after i removed the keyboard and cooling fan, i found the answer. the heat sink cooling fins were completely blocked with about 3mm of cat hair and dust.

do yourself a favor, Roger. get a can of compressed air and blow that thing out once month (with it shut down!)

      Cute!
As to cat hair and dust, I opened my computer for the first time in a couple of years. I could have crocheted a sweater with the cobwebs I found.

I blow compressed air through this poor machine every week or so. Couldn't function without it.

Geek cat :) I wonder what he's typing.

Have you ever heard of the cat-typing detection utility? It locks the keyboard when it detects cat-like typing (i.e. a cat walking across the keys).

Yes. Here's an example. This hardly seems worth $23.

      Thats too funny!!

I missed Gutsy, jumped right into Hardy and am now running Intrepid. Have you tried that yet?

    8. sskennel 65 months ago | reply

      No, I haven't dist-upgraded that laptop in a while.

      How do you like Intrepid?

    9. // Denise // 65 months ago | reply

Obviously I can't compare it to Gutsy *g*, but it really isn't that different than Hardy was (on the surface, anyway). Couple of minor things different, it's a bit different for unmounting Memory sticks, etc. I'm one of the ones that had a "perfectly" smooth upgrade, which I know I'm lucky for. ;-)

Do you use Gnome or KDE or anything?

    10. sskennel 65 months ago | reply

I run a pretty vanilla GNOME install nowadays. For some years I used Enlightenment on Red Hat, and got a lot of people I worked with hooked on it, too. I'm pleased to see that the project seems to be active again (the WM is the 3rd Google hit on the search term "Enlightenment" :-) and it looks like there are howtos for installing it on various Ubuntu releases. Might have to go try it again when I have time.

Do you process your images on Ubuntu? What tools do you use? (I'm embarrassed to say that I don't any longer.)

    11. // Denise // 65 months ago | reply

I do. I use Gimp, haven't tried more adventurous than that. If I start looking to do more, then I will probably branch out, but for now it does what I need it to.

I'm running Gnome, too. I tried Compiz and didn't see what the fuss was about and removed it. Tried KDE and was lost enough that I removed that, too, and went back to Gnome and am happy right here. :D

Would he notice if you installed Kubuntu without telling him? :-D And the DV tapes work perfectly for getting the laptop some air, with camcorders becoming small like the Sony Bloggie and Flip camera, tapes are running out of uses.
