Under the New Deal beginning in 1933, Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt, created the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of the job works program. Two and one half million men and boys were hired to work on conservation projects and paid a salary for their efforts. Unknowingly, this program provided well-trained, educated and healthy young men who fought in World War II.
