El Lagarto

A cold alligator lizard. Like most Angelenos, He wasn't sure what to make of the unseasonable LA coolness, so he just slowed his metabolism way down.

"Alligator" is from the Spanish for lizard, "el lagarto." So it's like saying "the lizard lizard." This species isn't unique to LA, but LA is such a linguistic melting pot, he fits right in. Take, for example, "The La Brea Tar Pits," which literally means "the the tar tar pits."
