Some Like it Hot
Octogenarian sculptor J. Seward Johnson has created other large representations of iconic figures, some cast in bronze. This 26-ft. aluminum and stainless steel representation of the world's most famous sex symbol is titled "Forever Marilyn, " and once stood in downtown Palm Springs, California, USA until 2014.
Johnson has had a turbulent life with family and critics. Marilyn's famous pose is from "The Seven Year Itch," and her life was somewhat turbulent too. After the giant sculpture's run on Michigan Ave. in Chicago, several cities were vying to be the next home to the giant statue.
The towering figure of Marilyn Monroe is well represented in Johnson's monumental sculpture. She is the missing blonde who was always the talk of the town. Her classic appearances on the silver screen defined the feminine essence realized in the dizzy, but intoxicating blonde.
Marilyn was a regular visitor to Palm Springs, was discovered at the Racquet Club there, and owned a bungalow in Las Palmas. She loved the desert.
