The Cactus Wren is the state bird of Arizona, where this individual was photographed. It is a most singular wren, with appearance and behavior unlike other wrens, as it is rather bold, and acts more like a Thrasher, than the other wrens in N. America, at least in my experience.
The Cactus Wren is another cherished addition to my life list. If you see one bird, you may want to see them all....eventually, or at least die trying.
Although the intervening vegetation is somewhat distracting, it serves to show that the Cactus Wren, like many other ground-feeding birds, apparently feels a little safer when separated from peering humans by some "cover," no matter how sparse, and this little guy was certainly aware of my presence.
