Subtropical Moisture From Remnants of Tropical Storm John (9-5-12) Photo #5
Subtropical moisture-filled skies over San Jose, CA. Can you see some mammatus here? Thunder and isolated, brief rain showers were encountered throughout this day today in our region, with the Central California Valleys experiencing the brunt with thunderstorms. Believe it or not, all these clouds are actually from the remnants of Tropical Storm John that developed 300 miles southwest of the tip of the Baja California peninsula a couple days ago. This "tropical depression" system continued to brush up north into California. Even red flag warnings were issued in Northern/Central CA due to possible dry lightning accompanied by the relatively dry conditions we were already experiencing throughout the duration of the summer months.
