My First Time Here To Witness The Mars Rover "Curiosity" Land on Mars at Moffett Field, Mountain View, CA! (8-5-12) Photo #4

My first time at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, CA. We were here to see and witness the landing of the Curiosity rover on Mars! During a critical period lasting about seven minutes, the Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft carrying Curiosity must decelerate from about 13,200 mph to about 1.7 mph for the rover to land on the surface at approximately 10:31 p.m. PDT tonight. The rover was 1 ton! Curiosity will investigate whether an area with a wet history inside Mars' Gale Crater ever has offered an environment favorable for microbial life. The mission is a precursor for future human missions to Mars. (Sunday afternoon, August 5, 2012)
