Delhi Rooftop: Bombax Bounty

Rose-ringed Parakeet, a Wasp and a Silk Cotton Tree.

The "Silk Cotton Tree", Genus Bombax is a very important tree in the Indian wilderness. Besides adding a dash of color to the canopy, its blossoms and fruits (which appear late winter to spring) are an important source of food for birds, mammals, insects etc. Drongos, Parakeets, Mynas, Doves, Orioles - the list of birds that feast on these goes on. They are also planted in urban areas and even on some dusty, crowded urban stree, if I see this tree, my head automically swivels around to lock-in on it it to see what goodies may be on it. Thus having a young tree right in my parent's apartment complex and eye-level from our rooftop (though a bit distant for a 400mm) is such a thrill.
