Costa Rica: Resplendent Quetzal

Resplendent Quetzal male in its full glory. Just got back from a trip to Costa Rica with friends and family. Lots of pics. Starting with the last bird photographed in 2009 to welcome the New Year. Shot on Dec 31, 2009 in Savegre Valley. It was really special to be able to share this magnificent bird with the kids who were treated to great views including males in flight. This species is often considered the most beautiful bird in the Western Hemisphere. As our Costa Rican driver, who had never seen one before, put it - "I have no words to express my feelings" ...

(Almost full frame shot, posting only in small size here).

Better larger.
