Through a Tree

The sun's light is filtering through this gorgeous sugar maple tree in Memorial Park, which is so glorious in the Fall that I noticed it first autumn we lived here.

The deep reds result from light absorption by anthocyanin compounds, whereas the yellows result from carotenoid light absorption. I wrote a column on autumn colors once.

What a pedant. I can't help teaching. Science is so wonderful.
