Trailpix tripod rig
I used this setup instead of a proper tripod this summer. It works, but unless you are setting up for shots at night, the time it takes to rig this up properly means you will not use it during the day. It's light enough to carry along, but if you plan to shoot landscape with proper tripod support throughout the day, bring a real tripod.
That Giotto head on it is larger than what is offered by Trailpix - I bought it separately on Amazon, I think. The clamp is your typical Swiss ARCA compatible unit. All combined, over 2 pounds less than my Benro carbon tripod with small ball head but you need 3 hiking poles of similar length, stuff them into the dirt with the handles, and when you pick it up they fall back out... patience is needed. However, when the light changes quickly in the morning, and you're changing lenses, this is quite annoyingly fragile and unstable.
