Stranger #9: Louis Mendes (Have Camera Will Travel)
Meet Louis Mendes, who until this time was a stranger to me but so well known to many New Yorkers, and professional photographers alike. You see Louis Mendes has been crisscrossing the boroughs of New York for over 40 years now taking photos at local events.
I met Louis at the Italian Festival being held in Little Italy. There he was strolling towards us, instant camera in hand and towing more tools of the trade in a wheeled case.
I knew Louis was somebody I wanted to meet so I approached him and we began a discussion. It was dark but I could see a confident man, one who has clicked the shutter more times than can be counted and for this reason I wanted to take louis's photo. So I asked if I could take that photo, to which Louis responded "You got one shot to show me what you can do" Being somewhat nervous I took that shot, I wanted it to be different from the numerous photos Louis has endured...lol.
Later on I surfed the net and found so many references and articles to Louis, he is a fascinating man, one I am so glad to have met, and a man I will hook up with on my next trip to NY.......thanks Louis for being my Stranger #9, and for giving me that one shot, you have no idea how much I appreciated that...:-)))
