1739 Field

    Newer Older

1739 Field Street, near Kercheval St, Detroit. Big fire in the back end occurred at some point since Oct 2009 when it was still inhabited. Its rock faced sandstone looks a bit like angel stone driving by but up close it sings. Simple elegant building.

There are some wonderful homes on Field. A buddy and I took a ride last week and stopped to refill water bottles at his parents' home south of Kercheval.

Of course I asked for a tour of the 1916 foursquare and was amazed by the well-preserved woodwork, the abundance of built-ins and the plethora of leaded glass everywhere.

The home is under renovation and will be magnificent once completed. If more like-minded folks got together to restore and eventually live in this conveniently located area of the city the street could really shine.

Hah I'll bet you did! A couple of blocks up the street is intact and well kept for the most part, with kids playing in the front yards. A lot of this particular block was levelled in the last 5 years with a few remainders. This street still has one of my favourite libraries in the city though - abandoned but intact.
