Freedom… has responsibilities - h

The viewer should understand STRONG sarcasm in the image above.

And just to be explicitly clear, animals do make their own decisions for some very low-level things. We control much about animals, we even control their mating. We also control their health, and that's why we vaccinate them regularly. Chickens, cows, horses, dogs, cats, sheep... all farm animals and animals of every type kept, maintained, or cared for by humans are vaccinated against something.

If we do that for "dumb" animals, why would we not do it for ourselves?

We do, to a great extent. School-aged children, military service members, health care professionals are but a few categories of individuals who are regularly vaccinated against several types of diseases.

There’s NO SUCH THING as freedom without some responsibility. Responsible pet & livestock owners vaccinate their critters, and law also requires it to prevent humans from zoonotic diseases (ones that go from animals to humans). Humans are the only animals that insist on “freedom” to get diseased.
