The Dividing Ridge - Composite of 1901-2015 Images

This image is a composite of a 2015 Google map and a portion of a 1901 topographic map of Lake Monona. Use the following link to the image search page on the Wisconsin Historical Society website:

www.wisconsinhistory.org/Content.aspx?dsNav=N:1135

Then enter Image ID 72486 in the search field to bring up the 1901 map on the Wisconsin Historical Society website.

The 1901 map was drawn to scale but a little rough by today's standards. I have done my best to resize and skew the original image to best fit the 2015 Google map. Compare this image to a related image in this Flickr photo album which is a composite of a 2015 Google map and the 1915 Dividing Ridge Group Plate 2 image from the 1915 Wisconsin Archeologist Vol.14 No.3, between pages 84 and 85. The 1915 image was not drawn to scale so I also had to resize and skew the image to best fit the Google map. I hope someday to update both of these composite images with better versions. Currently the northwest portion of the image with the mounds illustrated is slightly out of position with the topographic map as they relate to each other and the Google map. I will have to research Photoshop help to better to fix this.

These composite images were created to help people better visualize the size and location of the Native American mounds that once existed on The Dividing Ridge. I wish so much that they would have been saved from destruction.
