The dead and the dying
We walked through the collection of royal mausoleums of the Qutb Shahi dynansty, the founders of Hyderabad. Among the tombs to vanished kings was an incomplete ruin surrounding a small pond. Over the years it has collected the plastic garbage of visitors, and perhaps other nutrients dumped by them. Algae have grown over the pond's surface. Surrounded by dead kings, their pond is dying.
Today we have a genre of photographic art which consists of rusting machinery slowly being taken over by nature. I suppose it is not impossible that in future we will see plastic waste as an appropriate subject for high art, whose purpose is to contemplate the relationship between exploitation and nature. If such a day comes, I wish to be remembered as one of the originators of this idea :)
