Laser Engraved Calgary Map

Experimenting with engraving settings to obtain different engraving depths for different areas. Looks great and smells like campfire. Mmmmm...

The art is courtesy of David Bynoe (www.davidbynoe.com) a local Calgarian who had the time to mess around with GIS at work for a while to put this together. He assembled this up for lasering at the local hackerspace (www.protospace.ca), where their tired old 80 watt unit took over 2 hours to vector the original out. Our 65W Epilog helix has much faster rastering capability, so this took just under an hour to do this 24x18" sheet of 1/8" pine plywood.
