Another one bites the dust. I was informed from a friend that Detroit's oldest standing school has burned down tonight. It is a total loss. Based on its location and condition I can only assume it is arson.
A sad beginning to a new year. The school has been closed since around 1999. To me, its simplicity in design reminded me of the little small-town school seen in movies.
When I stepped foot in the building last year, this school showed extremely heavy signs of graffiti vandalism, which is odd considering it is in the middle of nowhere and has no online presence. Many months after my visit I was horrified to see that the back wall had been blown out, and virtually every single board on the building had been pried off, including the front doors. I remarked on that fact a few days ago, and little did I know it would succumb to fire soon after.
Just like the original school on this site that this current school building replaced... consumed by fire.
