Odairi-sama (the Prince), Hina Matsuri (Dolls Festival), Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, Toronto, ON
Hina Matsuri means Dolls Festival, and this festival began on March 3 of each year to pray for health and well being to young girls. Hina dolls are given by parents to their oldest daughter, who in turn will pass them down to her oldest daughter. The celebration of this festival can be traced back to the Edo Period (1603-1867).
