Bioretention Gardens in Detroit
Detroit Dixon Educational Learning Academy 8th grade middle school students tie markers to the garden plants. These students are part of the "Dixon Green Team".
On May 18, 2016, Garden project partners, community leaders, neighborhood residents, and local students celebrated the transformation of vacant lots to gardens specially designed to capture and soak up the rain and beautify neighborhoods in Detroit Michigan.
A University of Michigan Water Center research team collaborated with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD), the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA), and Cody Rouge neighborhood organizations to create an innovative form of green infrastructure (GI) for vacant properties in Detroit.
